Move – Freedom in Your Shoulders & Hips
25 August @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm SMT
An event every day that begins at 10:00am, repeating until 26 August , 2018
We are our habits. How we sit at our desk, how we reach for our phone, how we walk … Over time what we do every day becomes our story. They become automatic and we stop paying attention to the pain certain movements cause and the restrictions and immobility that come from imbalance and misalignment. Even if we can bear and grin the pain, physical restrictions also show up as limitations elsewhere in our life. Physical contractions are reflected and reflect our emotional pains, fears in life, and inflexible thinking, and diminish our capacity to live the life we want.
Have you had enough? Or pain, of struggling, of not being who you really are?
By paying attention and observing our patterns through simple movements, we come to understand the habitual movements and patterns that dominate our lives. Even better news, in this fun exploration, we learn how there are alternatives that are easier and more pleasant.
Would you like to drop your pattern of unease? Isn’t there enough challenge in life already?
Join Somatic Movement Educator Tara Eden for an experiential workshop to invite a different way of being, a more connected, whole, and free flowing way.
About the Workshop
Tara is offering two workshops. Workshop 1 will focus on sensing the function of the the ribs and spine as an important relationship in movement and Workshop 2 will focus on improving breathing and finding ease elsewhere in the body with understanding integration of the ribs and spine. You are invited to join either or both though we recommend attending both workshops as the second one will allow for a greater depth of work.
In this workshop, Tara will lead you through a series of Awareness Through Movement lessons to recognize and understand the habitual ways we strain unnecessarily and limit our mobility, ease, freedom, and potential. You will also learn through this experiential work how to organize your system for optimal movement. This workshop will clarify the spine and ribs, to define the link between our shoulders and hips.
Tara’s work is informed by the Feldenkrais Method. The first layer of this somatic practice is about improving physical mobility and ease in the mind. What is profound about this work through this process of self-learning, people become more empowered to make choices that fulfill their potential, reflect who they are, and allow them to be authentic in the world.
We often speak of “being present” and “self-knowing”. These words, and even the concept of inner peace are meaningless without the felt experience. We start by learning to listen to ourselves better, and to recognize sensations which are important messages from the nervous system.
What are Awareness Through Movement lessons?
Tara uses Awareness Through Movement lessons of the Feldenkrais Method to facilitate this process. These lessons are simple, pleasant, and unusual explorations. The instructions are designed to be basic so that the students can focus their attention and observe their own movement patterns. So much pain, strain, and discomfort can be alleviated simply by becoming aware of these patterns and then by realizing that there are more pleasant and even easier alternatives.
The aim of these lessons is to instill a new state of being, rather than a new set of skills. It is a state of wholeness, connectivity, and humanness that is available to us, when we step back from our habits, compulsions, expectations, and demands that we cling to as a way to be who we think we have to be. In a state of embodiment, we can glimpse the possibilities we may never have before considered and begin to tap into the insights to move into our full potential.

An amazing teacher. I can’t say enough. I stumbled into Tara’s class on a vacation. The Feldenkrais stuff she introduced me to has since become the foundation for all of my work. I cycled through just about everything (weightlifting, acupuncture, chiro, massage, pilates, yoga blah blah) trying to rehab my shoulder. Tara helped me find more mobility with less effort and sometimes in a shockingly short time.
About Tara Eden
Tara Eden has been exploring movement as medicine for as long as she can remember. She believes movement is the key to a feeling of personal freedom, empowerment, creativity and peace of mind.
For over 20 years Tara has studied various components of movement: Using the Body as a Tool of Expression and Communication (BFA in Theater), Movement for Self-Empowerment & Breath-led Movement (Ashtanga Practioner) Movement as Therapy (Certificate in Dance/Movement Therapy), for Physical Fitness and Wellbeing (Yoga Teacher, RYT 500) and Awareness Through Movement™ (Feldenkrais Method™).
While based in New York City, Tara taught vinyasa and hatha yoga and brought it to the Hasidic Jewish community, inner city middle school, private high school, and private homes.
Tara’s fascination with the body prompted her to learn Thai Massage and years later, she relocated to Thailand to study with Master Pichest Boonthumme.
Today Tara practices Integrated Bodywork which helps the receiver illuminate their “dark areas” that create chronic tension (body & mind), facilitating deep relaxation, body awareness and more comfortable and efficient movement and/or breathing patterns.
Currently based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Tara’s project constantly evolves and she teaches internationally workshops and classes in Somatic Movement, Awareness Through Movement™and Somatic Yoga (building asana from sensory awareness and functional body architecture), as well as offers private Awareness Through Movement™ lessons and Integrated Bodywork sessions.
