Charmaine Chua

charmaineCharmaine first started training with The Rolf Institute® of Structural Integration (RISI) in Boulder, Colorado, years ago and have since been certified as a Rolfing® practitioner by the European Rolfing Association e.V. (ERA). She also received training in Rolf Movement education, under the tutelage of Pierpaola Volpones, a faculty member of the ERA.

Before she became a Certified Rolfer™, Charmaine was formulating policies for various sectors of the Singapore Public Service. Although she now refers to that phase as her “former life”, she recognises that the Government scholarship had blessed her with a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the University of Cambridge (UK), where she gleaned a Masters in Chemical Engineering and a Women’s Blues (field hockey). She continued her sporting pursuits with the Singapore National Women’s Field Hockey Team as well as in competitive floorball and triathlons later on.

Charmaine had put her body under a lot of strain, both from the working environment and through physical training. Upon receiving Rolfing, the immediate relief from her tensional patterns and the change in her own physical posture convinced Charmaine that Rolfing has so much potential to offer in helping many others.

These days, she “pays it forward” by impacting the lives of every client she meets through Rolfing. Not every one leaves their jobs to become Rolfers, but many have shared how they were re-prioritising their daily lives in a different way, with greater expectation and renewed energy. It is common knowledge that Rolfing changes the body structure, and with the changes come relief from chronic pains and restoration of body strength. Perhaps it is not far-fetched to hear that the relief they experience affords them more resources to live life.

Rolfing is a form of Structural Integration bodywork that balances and aligns the body by working on the soft connective tissue called fascia. Through the 10-Series (or 10 Rolfing sessions), Rolfing increases a person’s awareness of the body in a manner that stimulates a neurological re-patterning in the brain so that the body recognises a new way of moving. This is the beauty and effectiveness of how Rolfing works to unwind deeply ingrained strain patterns and restore strength in your body. For more on Rolfing, click here.
