Awareness Through Movement® are group classes of The Feldenkrais Method®. This somatic education teaches students to gain greater awareness of their habits and patterns. Through gentle movement and attention, students begin to recognize connections that allow them to explore new and more easeful and efficient ways of moving.

In a ATM® class, you are guided through verbal instructions to move gently and lightly, focusing on learning to listen to your own body. Fresh combinations of movements are realised, leading to improvements in the quality and range of your bodily motions. At the same time, you will discover mind-body connections.
In this series of ATM lessons you will learn about:
- how the eyes help to organise the body’s movmeent
- movement of the pelvis
- effect of proper carriage of the head on the body
- efficient movements through the spine and various joints
ATM is for anyone interested in exploring how their own body is capable of moving gracefully and with greater ease, how to improve their breathing, and how to improve mobility in the spine and joints to reduce aches and pains.
What is the Feldenkrais Method?
The Feldenkrais Method is a form of mind-body integrated movement therapy that uses gentle movement and directed attention to increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful efficient movement. These improvements will often in turn enhance functioning in other areas of your life.

About the Facilitator
“Learning empowers life” is Karen’s mantra.
Trained as an accountant, Karen Tan worked many years as a regional tax advisor in various MNCs. Back pain and various health issues due to intense working environments and constant travelling led her to seek a more holistic life – one encompassing success, freedom and choice in both body and mind. Karen found her new passion in Pilates and the Feldenkrais Method®.
Karen empowers others to gain greater self awareness and to move with ease and fluidity through these two modalities. She draws on her corporate experience in tackling challenging issues and connecting with people.
Through movement, whether via Pilates or The Feldenkrais Method®, my goal is for each of us to be made aware of the power we have within and the choices we have for our own growth – physically, mentally and holistically – and ultimately experience freedom.
An active volunteer in a Kenyan NGO, Karen also uses her talents, experience and skills to empower the weak and neglected in society to realize their potential and lead full and meaningful lives.
